Houghton-Le-Spring Scouts

HLS Scouts prepare young people with skills for life. We encourage young people to do more, learn more and be more.

Each week we help nearly 1,000 young people aged 6 - 18 enjoy fun and adventure while developing the skills they need to succeed, now and in the future.

What We Do

Houghton-le-Spring Scout District (part of Durham Scout County) provides support to seven scout groups and seven explorer units in the Hetton, Houghton and Washington areas of the City of Sunderland.

Scout groups at
Eppleton, Houghton, Herrington, Fatfield, Lambton, North Washington, West Washington and Washington Village along with our District Young Leader Unit, make up nearly 1,000 members, including over 100 adult volunteers.

Growing Scouting

The district has grown significantly over the last decade and is managed by an enthusiastic group of trustees who form its executive.

The demand from young people and families to join continues to grow as young people want to do more, share more and be more. We continue to recruit new adults to lead adventure for even more young people.

Young people first: safeguarding and safety in Scouting

Wherever we go and whatever we do, we put young people’s safety and wellbeing first. Here's how.
