Bryan manages and supports the Scout District to ensure it runs safe and effectively and that Scouting within the District develops. He ensures that that the District provides good quality Scouting for young people and proactively supports and manages adults in the District.

District Youth Commissioner: Jordan Pratt

Responsible to: District Commissioner

Jordan is <25 and ensures HLS answers and delivers the ambitions, views and needs of its youth membership. Jordan ensures the district's strategic aims, development plans and programme are shaped in partnership with young people. Jordan also manages the youth council (explorer scouts).

Assistant District Commissioner (Youth Programme): Jack Fletcher

Explorer challenge

Responsible to: District Commissioner

Jack is responsible for developing an exciting calendar of district events for all sections as well as supporting leaders to create active programmes across the district. Jack also oversees the growth and management of explorer scouting in HLS.

District Explorer Scout Commissioner: Jack Fletcher

Explorer Climbs

Responsible to: ADC (Programme) and Assistant County Commissioner (Explorers)

Jack is responsible for the development of explorer scouting in HLS, including supporting active Explorer Scout Units and the District Young Leader Unit. Phil Allman shares some of this responsibility, namely supporting successful transition between explorers and network/ adult volunteering.

Appointments Secretary: Jane McIntyre

Responsible to: Deputy District Commissioner

Jane's role is essential in ensuring adults are suitably supported into their new appointments. She manages the local appointment's advisory committee and takes a lead on DBS checks and other introductory procedures.

District Events Team: 30 brilliant volunteers!

Explorers team building

Responsible to: ADC (Programme)

The events team is responsible for planning and delivery of district adventures for young people and adults in Houghton-le-Spring. The aim is to provide opportunities for young people that individual sections or groups aren't able to provide, such as big international experiences or festival-style camps.

With each new event brings a smaller team from the wider events team to work in conjunction with section leaders to plan and deliver events. It's a cross-section task and finish approach.

The team support volunteers in delivering adventure.
In HLS, the district team's mission is to help adults deliver adventure. 

The team doesn't limit itself to sections, instead supporting adults deliver adventure for all 980, 6-25 year olds in our local area, in line with our 2018 vision. Have a look at the individual roles and to see what everyone does.

This role has responsibility for ensuring the smooth running of adult recruitment, adult training, internal communication and youth membership management systems. He leads the District Adult Recruitment Team (DART) and manages the Membership Managers.

Phil manages the Scout Network Section and is responsible for proactively enabling Scout Network members to shape and participate in the Scout Network programme in accordance with the Purpose, Principles and Policies of The Scout Association.
