District Commissioner: Kevin Wilson

Responsible to: County Commissioner

Kevin manages and supports the Scout District to ensure it runs safe and effectively and that Scouting within the District develops. He ensures that that the District provides good quality Scouting for young people and proactively supports and manages adults in the District.

Deputy District Commissioner: Steven Gibson

Steve is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of adult recruitment, adult training, internal communication and youth membership management systems. He leads the District Adult Recruitment Team (DART) and manages the Membership Managers.

District Youth Commissioner: Daniel Millican

Responsible to: District Commissioner

Dan is <25 and ensures HLS answers and delivers the ambitions, views and needs of its youth membership. Dan ensures the district's strategic aims, development plans and programme are shaped in partnership with young people. Jordan also manages the youth council (explorer scouts).

Responsible to: District Commissioner

Jack is responsible for developing an exciting calendar of district events for all sections as well as supporting leaders to create active programmes across the district. Jack also oversees the growth and management of explorer scouting in HLS.

Jack is responsible for the development of explorer scouting in HLS, including supporting active explorer scout units and the district young leader unit.

District Explorer Scout Administrator: Matthew Ridley

Responsible to: District Explorer Scout Commissioner

The district explorer scout administrator is responsible for providing administrative support to the explorer units across the district in addition to the district explorer scout commissioner. It’s a role involving communication, organisation and administrating; dotting the Is and crossing the Ts!

Appointments Secretary: Jane McIntyre

Responsible to: Deputy District Commissioner

Jane's role is essential in ensuring adults are suitably supported into their new appointments. She manages the local appointment's advisory committee and takes a lead on DBS checks and other introductory procedures.

Explorers team building

Responsible to: ADC (Programme)

The events team is responsible for planning and delivery of district adventures for young people and adults in Houghton-le-Spring. The aim is to provide opportunities for young people that individual sections or groups aren't able to provide, such as big international experiences or festival-style camps.

With each new event brings a smaller team from the wider events team to work in conjunction with section leaders to plan and deliver events. It's a cross-section task and finish approach.

Our team doesn't limit itself to individual sections, instead supporting adults deliver adventure to all 900+, 6-25 year olds in our local area, in line with our 2023 vision.

Assistant District Commissioner (Programme)

Membership Manager (Adults): Carl Hickman

Carl's role is a key link between new volunteers, our adult recruitment team and scout groups. Carl manages the district adult recruitment team and is the key point of contact for new and potential volunteers. Carl makes sure adults feel welcome, well supported and are in the right role before being appointed.

District Scout Network Commissioner
