  • 47 places
  • £309 (lots of funding/ fundraising opportunities)
  • Leader in charge - Jack Fletcher (Assistant District Commissioner - Events)

  • North East Coach Travel

The event costs £309. This cost should not be a barrier to young people attending.

We have some great funding and fundraising opportunities available to young people. Some families paid just over £150 for 4 days in London in 2016!

Please have a confidential conversation with Jack, our leader in charge, if cost is a barrier to a young person attending. Email for Jack's contact info.

Communication between young people, families and leaders is one of our top priorities! Our primary method of communication is by email.

Before the event, we'll send you a welcome email when you pay your first deposit. This is confirmation that a young person is booked to attend the event. We'll send updates in September and October and host a parents/ families info evening in October.

Fundraising opportunities will be communicated out as soon as we have information for young people.

On the way to London, you can track our progress live online and we'll have a dedicated phone line to update you of our journey progress.

On our way to and whilst in London, we're active on twitter and facebook to promote the great stuff happening! There'll be lots of great photos and regular updates for each group!

Finally, our InTouch system uses a home contact. Should you need to contact us (or vice versa) in London, we'll use this person as an intermediary to ensure clear, consistently relayed information and communication.
Explorer scouts in the city
50 friends. 4 days. 3 nights. 1 amazing city.
It's back! In the City - London is about exploring our capital city! It's seeing the sights of London, it's navigating the London Underground, it's discovering new adventure in the heart of our capital.

Sights, tastes, views and more.
Our capital city has so much to offer. We'll travel by executive coach to London on Saturday morning and return on Tuesday evening. We'll explore and see so much when we're there:

London programme Saturday
Departing Washington Services (South), we'll head to Warner Bros Studios by executive coach! After an afternoon of magic, we'll head to our accommodation in Kensington. Finally, we'll finish at Nando's!

Sunday morning means heading straight for the heart of London. It's about sights and Madam Tussauds. The afternoon brings a blue-badge guided tour and a Pizza Hut dinner by Trafalgar Square. Rounded off with a west-end theatre experience!

Monday morning starts in the financial district. It's the View from the Shard, more Monopoly and a River Cruise. Followed by an afternoon navigating the Tube. Our final night is rounded off

Our final morning starts off by Parliament on the London Eye Experience. After a final tour of the capital, our executive coach arrives and we head north; making a final stop for dinner at McDonalds, then to Washington Services (north).

Parent quote activities

Safety - our number one priority.
Scouts builds confidence, independence and skills for life.
Scouts and the Shard
In the City (London) is planned, delivered and managed by a team of experienced adult leaders from our scout district.

Safety is always our number one priority and we have a great track record of safely leading large events (see examples here).

Our comprehensive event plan manages every aspect of the event. Young people will work in small groups of around 10, led by experienced adults trained in firstaid.

Our explorer scouts will have the opportunity to independently explore London in groups, managed by adult leaders. When exploring independently, explorers will check-in with frequently check in with an adult (who are always reachable by phone) and will have the option of staying with the adult team.

Holland Park

Our accomodation

We're staying right in the heart of London. Safestay Holland Park in Kensington is a fantastic, modern and safe youth hostel. It's a great base for seeing the sights of London as we're very close to the tube and Kensington High Street!
We'll be sleeping in secure dormitories with adult leaders in nearby rooms. Males, females, scouts and explorer scouts will be in a dormitory with people in their section and gender. Our team work with local scout leaders to ensure every young person has a familiar face with them!

Parent quote

In the City (London) 2016 was a great success and our events team sought feedback about the event in 2016. Our young people asked and our event team listened!

In 2018, we're adding a west-end experience and the London Eye experience. We're also changing the order of our activities to make sure we aren't too tired (we walked a lot in 2016, and we're reducing that in 2018).
