Houghton-le-Spring Scout District (part of Durham Scout County) provides support to six scout groups and two explorer scout units in the Hetton, Houghton and Washington areas of the City of Sunderland. Scout Groups at Eppleton, Houghton, Herrington, Fatfield, North Washington and Washington Village along with North and South Explorers make up the almost 500 members, the district has grown year on year since 2001. The district is managed by an enthusiastic group of trustees who form its executive and embarked on an ambitious development plan in 2008 that saw the district grow by 17% in 2009. The growth has been sustained in 20010-12 and we expect our 2013 membership to have risen significantly once again due to the opening of new sections.
